More than buying an anti-aging product and taking a few minutes a day to use it, another way to face aging requires a conscious mental shift. This can mean letting go of fears, staying curious, ambitious, and embracing love. I’m a firm believer that what’s in your head and heart, will reflect on the way you look. So aside from healthy eating habits and exercise, youthful physique starts with how you think.
Here are 3 celebrities that inspire me to think of what it means to stay young mentally.
Shakira
Shakira learns how to skateboard in her 40s. As we get older, it’s easy to fall prey to fears of injuries and movement. Or maybe we start casting aside certain activities as meant for younger people. Take up new hobbies and learn new skills. Don’t be afraid of your body or a challenge.
Goldie Hawn
Find love and happiness, and know when to hold on to it for life. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together shy of 40 years. You don’t see them excessively flaunting their love on social media, but when interviewed together, you can certainly feel the electricity.
In society, we somehow equate taking risks and embracing life changes as an exciting part of youth. On the other hand, as we grow older, we search for stability. But stability doesn’t mean monotony. In fact, stability, be it in relationships or careers, can provide us with excitement and exhilaration, particularly if grounded in love. Don’t crave change just for the sake of change and hold on to people and things that deserve it.
Roger Federer
Enjoy what you do and don’t let the past and expectations define what’s possible.
For the last five years, pundits keep talking about Roger’s retirement. But Roger keeps redefining how old one should be and still be a top professional tennis player.
The Takeaway
In our article on collagen, we talked about how investing in wellness requires us to assess what works for us. The point is not to ditch night creams and serums, but to find the many avenues to keep our lives filled with the valor of youth and take control of how we age.
