This is a small change you can make for an even healthier home-cooking routine. Swap regular cream for cashew cream. It’s a game changer. More than 15 years ago I tried to make Alfredo sauce. The recipe I found required two sticks of butter and 2 packs of cream cheese. Most creamy pasta recipes rely on butter, cheese, and cream. Adding cashew cream is a great way to get the creamy and buttery taste, without the cholesterol. 

I make a bowl of cashew cream weekly as as a part of my meal prep. 

Overall, cashews are healthy. They contain healthy fats, antioxidants, and fiber. But they are high in calories, so always in moderation, like most things in life. And for me, they are still a better alternative than butter and cheese. 

Ideas to add cashew cream

I use equal parts cashew and water for this recipe. The good news is you can always add water if you want a less dense cream. Basically, you have milk! It’s one of the easiest nut milks to make.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups raw cashews
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. Place cashews and water in a pan. Cover and bring to a boil.
  2. Let it cool. Blend and store in the fridge.
