Strawberry Lemonade Recipe Made with Frozen Strawberries

by Marianne Navada

Currently, a 4-lb bag of frozen organic strawberries costs $11.59 at Costco. I have learned that eating healthy is a lot more affordable than unhealthy eating, especially when you make it yourself. And when it comes to cooking and making more stuff at home, perfection is the enemy of good. There is always a way to eat fresher, cut the sugar, etc., so don’t always strive for perfection or the best option. Fresh strawberries are the best for strawberry lemonade, but frozen works too! Frozen fruit is a great way to eat fruits if you haven’t had the time to get fresh produce.

I make strawberry lemonade a few times a week. I love drinking it after playing tennis, a cardio workout, or during a meal. It’s a great replacement if you drink soda or other carbonated drinks.

I used to drink soda in my teens until my early 20s. It became a habit. I was able to quit when one day, I got soda from a broken soda fountain. I didn’t know it was broken and took a sip, and what I got was warm and fizz-less soda. It was horrible. It’s loaded with so much sugar that it’s just undrinkable. It felt like drinking molasses.

If you’re on a journey to healthy eating, ditching soda, diet or regular, is one of the first steps. Aside from the ingredients, it’s addicting and it forms bad habits.

Bad Habit Stacking: Soda and Junk Food

I find that when I used to drink soda, I also consumed more junk food such as chips. It became a part of habit stacking—the bad kind. There’s this concept called habit stacking which one can use to build good habits. For instance, if you want to play guitar consistently, then associate it with your morning coffee. So every time you take your coffee, you’re also playing guitar. But habit stacking can also lead to even more habits.

With soda, it’s easy to stack drinking it with another bad habit. For me, that was junk food.

Quitting soda changed my whole diet. It was pivotal in my health journey. I hope this recipe will help if you’re looking for something sweet and fund to drink.

Strawberries are packed with vitamin C, an antioxidant and a good source of fiber.
